A&P Engineers (a CHA company) team received the 2020 GRAN WINNERS AWARD from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC-FL)
The project awarded included the installation of 7.5 miles of 54” & 48” Redundant Sewer Forcemain through Downtown Fort Lauderdale. The new force main crosses three canals, the Intracoastal Waterway, and several major County and FDOT roadways. To minimize impacts and disruptions, the main line was constructed utilizing mostly trenchless technologies with approximately 6.5 miles (91%) of HDPE pipe installed using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). A total of 17 directional drills of up to 60-feet deep were constructed through the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. The Design-Build project was led by David Mancini and Sons (DMSI) and Murphy Pipeline Contractors (MPC) as the prime contractors. This project was fast-tracked and required substantial permitting and intense collaboration with local, County, State and Federal regulatory agencies. The project was designed by A&P Engineers along with Chen Moore and Associates, Hazen & Sawyer and Craven Thompson.
The ACEC-FL Engineering Excellence Awards program is designed to recognize outstanding contributions to the consulting engineering profession through comprehensive evaluation of projects by a distinguished panel of experts in related fields. The top winners at the state level proceed to the national competition administered by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).
Congratulation for the entire A&P’s Water Resources Department and its lead engineer, Mr. Arnelio Alfonso, P.E.!
